Jan23 Day 1: 5 Days of Tutorials 2013

Welcome to the first day of 5 days of tutorials!

I’m pretty excited about it and hope you are too.  Couple things to get out of the way.

First, I am on a strict budget.  You will see me using common things on hand or using up leftovers for my projects to keep my costs low.  My motto with everything?  Think outside the box!

Second, I strongly  believe in giving credit where credit is due.  These tutorials have been tediously put together by me and most are completely original.  I source the original creator on a couple where appropriate.  I ask that you do the same for me pretty please.

Let’s get started!!!

You may have seen my girls wearing these in our photo shoot.

I am in love!

I first saw The Pleated Poppy making these for a Little Man Baby Shower.  {She throws darling parties!}  I switched things up a bit and used wool fabric and turned them into hair bows.  They are classy and lovely.   Think English prep school.

You’ll need:

::Fabric with pattern on both sides – I used wool

::Coordinating thread and needle

::Pin back or hair clip

::Ruler

::Glue gun

::Scissors

Cut your fabric to desired size.  Mine was 9.5 inches long and 3.5 inches wide and made a medium-sized chunky bow.

Run a bead of glue down each long side, folding over the fabric a little…

Fold the sides in till they meet in the middle.

Glue the sides down in the very middle.

The front is going to look like this.

Thread your needle and knot.

Work with pinching your bow till you get your desired look – I like to have the sides pointing downward so it lays nicely.

Take your needle and run straight through the pinched fabric, trying to hold everything in place.

Wrap thread around and around and around the middle to hold the pinched fabric all in place.

I usually go through again just for added measure.

Then knot your thread.

Cut out a small piece of fabric – about 4 inches long and 1.5 inches wide.

Hot glue the sides in…

It should look like this.

With the right side up and starting in the back center of your bow, hot glue the band down.

Position the piece of fabric around the bow and over the thread.

Cut to size.

Then glue down.

Like this.

Here you can choose your desired backing. Pins work great for a bow tie and I find those triangular hair things work great for my girls.

Sew your choice onto the back center of the bow, being careful not to sew into the front.  You wouldn’t want to see your thread peeking through all creepy!

Knot your thread and you are done!

Go stick in your little one’s hair or pin onto a shirt…

Try not to faint from the darlingness of it all.

See you tomorrow!

Linking up to these fun parties.
